BiographyBorn 20.02.51, Glasgow. Married. PhD, University of Edinburgh. Before entering Parliament as MP for Dunfermline East in 1983 was a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh and a journalist for Scottish Television. Prime Minister since June 2007. Chancellor of the Exchequer 1997 - 2007. Shadow Chancellor (1992 - 1997). Previous posts include Shadow Secretary for Trade and Industry, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury and opposition spokesperson on regional affairs. Chair of the Scottish Labour Party in 1983.
